Garden Reverence: A Soulscape

I’ve started to call a lot of my work “soulscapes” because while there are often abstract hints of landscape elements, it’s really more about creating a visual language around how nature or a place makes you feel, rather than a literal depiction… the emotional residue that’s left behind. The word ‘reverence’ also keeps coming up for me - I have a strong reverence for nature and that’s often what I’m carrying into my work. While creating this painting, I was reminded of the stillness of a lake or pond, humid air, the alive-ness of fall colors, the overwhelming and frankly miraculous pops of color that flowers provide in our everyday lives if we pause long enough to notice and open ourselves to be in awe. Places that exist just for us, as a reminder of who we are and that we are part of this miraculous earth.
