Some of my strongest desires when painting are to capture light, and to explore nature in both a physical and emotional sense. This painting continues that journey of expression and connection.
.
With the recent loss of my beloved Rothko, I avoided painting for a bit, because I feel so much when I paint… and I was already feeling so much that it was scary to open up that channel even more in the studio. But now, as I move deeper into healing, I feel him with me when I paint. And, I smile feeling the warmth of our love and the adventures we had together (and will continue to have). It’s okay for grief and joy to coexist.
.
Even though this piece was completed shortly before his passing, it reminds me of our hikes together through wildflowers in the spring time. The glow is a bit like our spirits waking together with nature. I can feel our souls there. That glow will always remain.
.
Return to nature. It knows the way.
